found this on the net.Anyone being cracked unsuspectingly on the head or shoulder by the heavy E30 hood will be able to relate to this.this is what you do, take out the bonnet absorber and drill a hole approx. 6 cm. from the front of the absorber (where the silver shaft exits it).Put the absorber back, get an alen key close to the size of the drill bit used and slot it in the hole you just drilled. This will stop the shaft from going back into the casing, when you want to close the bonnet, just pull out the pin.

    this works!

but... attach a string or wire to one end of the pin, and the other end, tie it to sometihng inside the bonnet. This is to prevent you from losing the pin/allen key.

    cheers! :D

change the bloody bonnet absorber. it cost about RM70 from the chopshop. :eek:k:

Please take note that the bonnet might crashed down on your head should the allen key or any stopper slipped out from the hole drilled on the absorber.

if it's RM70... then might as well change it la :D

but, if the pin goes straight thru the hole, i doubt the bonnet will come crashing down because highly unlikely the pin will slip out because of the pressure of the silver shaft or whatever u call it, pressing/resting itself on the pin will stop the pin from slipping out.

in order to take out the pin you have to actually push the bonnet slightly upwards to release the 'pressure' of the shaft on the pin. so i reckon it's acutally quite safe.

but i may be wrong.
