        /Air-cond service/

went with Naidu of Jln Gasing, PJ, and it was a 10am to 10pm job.

        Total cost = RM1,590.

        Here's the breakdown.

        Itemised Billing wef Jan 2005
        -----------------------------

        1. Copper cooling coil (more durable than aluminium) = $470
        2. Receiver/Dryer $190
        3. Expansion valve $135
        4. Original pre-cut air-cond blower sponge $160
        5. air-cond belt $48
        6. Dryer Bearing $49
        7. Main Belt $59
        6. To vacuum and top up compressor oil and gas $40
        7. Change Compressor pulley bearing $58
(note: don;t believe a mechanic if he says compressor bearing can't be replaced)
        8. To remove dashboard and a whole lot of other stuff to change cooling coil + misc labour $390

I was awed by the fact that the factory fitted cooling coil lasted 10 years, and was still working.....but decided to retire it and get a new one instead. Labour charge is fair since there's a whole lot of work involved and the mech and his workers need to make a decent profit.

Naidu is methodical in his work and transparent about what needs to be changed and the cost of doing so + alternatives one can try.

He also installed a new fuel filter (bought it myself from Bavarian Auto for RM33) and it makes a difference as I can feel the car is more responsive with clean fuel surging into the 325's six burners.

BTW, if anyone is interested in Treo 650 smartphone, word from the local retailers is that it will arrive on our shores before CNY, and is expected to sell for RM2,400-RM2,600. Looks like a gadget I'd like to own.

damm...anyone knows if there is a difference between 325 and 328's fuel filter? I paid 75 to one of my mech..!?

WHAT? You change your engine oil EVERY month ah????? I've heard there are pros & cons doing that.... . Then do you change your oil filter each time you change engine oil? Since your oil is only 1 month old, can the old one be re-used since it's still considered 'non-contaminated'??
Change is inevitable...except from a vending machine....

I think ICE travels a good deal every day, thus every month he may be clocking about 5000km, which is time for an oil change.

well DD yup i've been changing my engine oil every month as mainly due to a high mileage clocking factor and also to maintain a healthy engine compression..... If you notice my lifters are going hay wire and there are several had recommended me for a TOP Overhaul but then there was this particular Sifu that told me about this matter.....

So far i've clocked 20K over upon this period to test the efficiency of this practice ... and hell it's paying off good...

as for the oil filter ,i've only changed it regularly during the first 3 months as there was lotsa carbon composits that was build up there ..... once after the 3rd month you may be able to see that ya oil filter will be clean and then you can change ya oil filter at every 2nd or 3rd oil change......

Well i'm doing this is mainly to enhance my engine durability and also to avoid a large amount of carbon building up in my engine as what they say that, BMW Engines can withstand till 10K and then only service is a pure crap... i think this formula is only for those new cars clocking about 120K ~ 150K and after that every thing will be falling apart and thats where you may be encountering one of the most famous problem ENGINE OVER HEATING due to burn gasket or the cooling system screwed up...

Try feeling the drained engine oil when you perform ya service ...how does it feels like .... like water and sand right ?? so what does it shows when you feel the sand thinggy in the oil .... that's the carbon composits and the water feeling is the voscosity that's been fully used.... ....

Note : have you notive that it only takes about 5 days or so and when you check ya dip-stick you may experince that the new engine oil that you've change is already turning BLACK !!

Note : this is only a personal experince or just my 2 cent comment....

                            c-sqyare :- i don't travel that much...even if i've clocked 500 km a month too i must change it no matter what ...

flash :- ke ke i'm not an o.p.e.c member but then that's my preference as to avoid visiting a mechanic always or having a break down frequenly...

Vanguish :- well it's up to individual as you may follow this method for the first 30~45 days and then later once you see a healthy engine you may then opp to 60 days or so ....

                                My turn.
Serviced at Naidu PJ (The aircond guy).

                                1 belt tensioner - RM120
                                1 set O-ring - RM10
                                1 compressor pulley bearing - RM59
Top up oil and AC gas - RM40
                                Labor - RM60

                                Total - RM289.

Brought car to Naidu's early morning. Stuck in PJ/Sunway/USJ jam. Removed compressor for servicing. Went to USJ with no AC. Sweating like mad. Jam like hell. @#%!#$@#$!@.

Back at Naidu's at 4pm. Raining!! Oh my.
Was it worth it? Oh yes. The aircond is realy nice now and the engine is purring when the compressor is on. Idle also spot on 700rpm.
