View Full Version : When can we have our club newsletter?

Just received the February issue of BMW.SG February Newsletter via email.
I must say its a good effort by their club to send out monthly newsletter to promote their activites to all their members.
By doing this, both active and non-active members will get summarise of events held / to be held and detailed coverage of each one of it.
Certainly will benefit the club's image on the long run.

A club newsletter is a brilliant idea. But it will only work if there are commited individuals to see it through production. The committee has discussed this idea before and the only thing holding us back is the lack of proper manpower.

If there are volunteers to form a sub-commitee for newsletter publication, LET'S GO FOR IT!

so..............HOW?...............Talk is cheap................

ROS apllication normally takes years to get approval. Firstly, PDRM needs to vet through the Pro-tem commitee personal data and then to KDN. Secondly this a NGO organisation it is not so simple, believe me, unless you know people of influence to get you through. It took my commitee almost one year to get ROS approval, and this is with a prominent Tan Sri which is our patron or commitee member. Before you even think of distributing newsletter you need ROS and then licence for newsletter. I am not sure of the current Cyberlaw on newsletter issued by NGO's over the Internet. Guys, pls seek Professional advice, NGO activities is a very delicate issue in Malaysia especially when it involve membership by and large. it gets even complicated if subscription is required and proof of funds is not from anywhere overrseas especially if you have foreign links.

Actually, you can produce the nwesletter now provided it is "FOR MEMBERS ONLY"., after having notified KDN of the intent to do so.

Why I know this?

Been producing these college newsletter wayyyyyy back in 1974.... for MRSM Kota Baharu - Mahathir was Education Minister then sending his Mokhzani to 1st year.

So long as legal boundary are observed and sensitivities are guarded.. then the internal circulation "FOR MEMBERS ONLY" will have no issue.

But, sorry lah.. I am an old man now.. tak ade tenaga lagi nak buat kerje kerje berat cam tu lagi..

But that has been my experience.

Oso.. from my experience, for "safe" publication like this, the bureaucracy to produce is not the problems. The problems are: monies, monies, monies, manpower, articles, logistics, distribution....

Then cums the consistence.. 1st edition : gagah; 2nd issue: lack lustre; 3rd issue : malap........... 4th issue.. mampus.

I concur mit der 'latok' - my Rotary Club is struggling mit it's weekly newsletter. It's voluntary, it needs passion but most of all moolah & commitment. Not as easy as it sounds. <_<

I have to concur with latok too... it may be a good idea but you must have dedicated people to produce the newsletter and no to mention the moolahs too. The company I am working used to produce newsletters... at first it was quite regular and then it got more and more sporadic and finally it died a "natural" death.

I am not one to debate about the pros and cons of the newsletter .. but if you decide to go ahead with it, I can pitch in.

... Thanks for all the kind words.

A bit of nostalgia here....

Last time during our student days there is no DTP, no Photoshoppe, only typewritter and what is now a Dinosaur "Clyclostyle" - that thing that is slightly better than Guttenberg machine.

Since, there is no computers, no internet... so every one is waithing for tete-a-tete, gossips, articles and news.

But, now the information is available at a click of a mouse. So, there must be a differenciation between a newsletter and the "forum" or "bulletin boards". Otherwise, by the time the nwesletter leaves the computer to the printer, the information is already obsolete, even before the newsletter left the printer.

So, now a suggesttion:

There are some experts here Mr Lee - the photoshoppe Sexpert, Lil Dimples - full of vibrating energy; and with some expert DTP guys, pproduce a newsletter within the forum...

Then whoever wants to print, can print out via own printer.. ala Acrobat!
:yes!:

Actually the online version of a newsletter ain't that complicated, no issues of $$ here. All effort goes to the compilation of the news/stories to be presented in the newsletter.

This is what i received from BMW SG :-

It serves as a Reminder, Notification....also Publicity to the club :)

Well, that is a start ... I guess we could put something ad-hoc together. For starters, I suppose I can write a feature on the grand TT .. and if someone can supply the pics .. and also throw in some other events ... maybe something on the official HH/TTs and events (and KLANG TT! .. sorry! couldn't help it!) .. we can get something up to present to the powers-that-be as a proposal ...

What say you?

Thanks mctnesh. What other stuff can we put in apart from gatherings, etc (guess we have Driven for that)? I suggest-

1. Basic DIY / Detailing - with pics
2. Feature on interesting BMW - classic, monster with TEST DRIVE REPORT
3. Vendor feature

Good enthusiasm guys and gal,

Go ahead and come up with a 'test' prototype and then we can pass it around during TT sessions and get a consensus.

HOW?

Daredevil
24-02-2005, 11:25 PM
Well, we have a loyar, an editor and an IT expert. What a great team. I suggest you can rip some photos from some of our past events and put in some simple text. The 1st prototype shouldn't exceed 4 pages...and just pdf it.

The e-newsletter will be a great publicity tool to attract more members and sponsors to the club.

The committee is waiting anxiously for the 1st draft!!!! :D

For photos, go to 'member's meet up' forums.....

Agreed.

Any volunteers for the interesting BMW feature? Ckassic (i.e. Csi, 6 Series, 2002, E21?) monster (turbo, tranplant, stroked, M)?

If none, then a short article on any interesting Bimmer suggested by the forummers.

Here my two thai bahts,

1) Introduction of the club - mission, vision, ideals, etc.

2) Highlight some members - to illustrate diversity in age, profession, sexual preference, etc......

3) Highlight some past events - AWAM, Fraser's drive, Leather seat clinic, pin-the-tail-on-dimples........etc........

Just some ideas to get y'all started. Have fun!

I don't know if I qualify anymore though....I'm selling the car. I'm still of course very enthusiastic about it. I could get another in the future ...once bitten, always smitten. I can write and take borderline pictures, but I have zero DTP skills. Then again, I'm on leave until end April (yes! yes!), so please count me in if that's OK.
