View Full Version : toyota advanza
I m very surpriced that many people has actually book/buy this so called MPV by toyota at the price of RM61k.
This so called MPV is indeed a van with 10 years old tect with blank safety features
Toyota is really good at marketing this car by "accidently" revealed the infomation to the public few months earlier before its official launch to capture the interest of public of this "affordable", "quality" toyota
I m so surpriced to read that thousand of people has atually que-up under the hot sun at Mont Kiara just to get a 30 seconds glimpse of the car during the soft launch.
I m so pity to the fellow malaysians that all of us have been wanting an affordable and quality car in the market for so long that our Proton could not give.
The Jap r really smart to know our problem that they really come out the solution for us by providing the beautiful toyota JUNK van selling at a "CHEAP" price of RM61,000.......then raise another 2K to RM63,000 in two weeks. A Greedy UMW! whatever reasons for u to increase the price
Avoid this junk! save our hard earn money.

these guys have good marketing strategies, add their years of reputation in our auto mkt.
i'm sure you've seen 5 to 10 yrs corollas and such still commanding some $$.
the market for toyota is very different from the bimmer community, they speak about "cheap, affordable, trouble free, JAPANESE product"...
as for the advanza, their targetted segment is >4 ppl in a family. These buyers will think that they have the best deal for rm60k+.
well, i think they've got a good deal too.
come on, rm60k for JAPANESE, >5 seaters, small engine (=low road tax and perceived low consumption)....where to find?
for 7 seater, a nissan van or p2 rusa would be cheaper and better deal.

Yeah was quite puzzled y there is so much interest in the car and seeing quite a few on the roads now. And the car is not I would say in the looks department.
Guess the malaysia public is getting bored of local car already haha

well, for that kind of price where else can you get a "mpv", given the recent craze of owning a mpv these days. Sure, Nissan Venette, C20, Ford Econovan, Liteace, Rusa are cheaper, but they are under the "Van" category which many (apart from those in the biz of transporting goods)would not want to be caught driving in.

Am I the only one who thinks the Avanza is a revamped Kembara?! After all, it is RWD, and shares the same engine. The body looks similar too. Is that the reason for the comment that it is 10 year-old technology?

I think we shouldnt get on Toyota or UMWs case for being very clever.....I think you hit the nail on the head by saying that it is PROTON's failure to come up with an affordable quality car that is the case in point here....

Firstly, I think we have to 'make' sure that the Avanza engine is really a a 100% pure breed Toyota one. As a lot of poor consumers has been mislead into believing that the Chevy engine is really a US made engine (am I wrong to say that???) and the 1.8L Waja engine is actually made by Renault. All these 'mergers' are really confusing the hell of everybody.
That being said, I think the Avanza is a real value for money. Beats a Juara anytime. I saw a maroon one with bigger sport rims the other day. Looks kinda cool.
But my personal favourites remain the Toyota Wish and Honda Odyssey for now...yummy..... B)

Guys,
I always believe that all these queue thing is marketing ploy...at least for avanza..at the same time, if u need them fast, pay extra 6K... It's a scam, at least by those sales people....
agree with ya 'all, I don't understand why people are rushing for avanza, but it's good deal, I agree... but cheap product always have something behind it...
that's why BMW is not cheap.... sigh...

For RM61-64k, your choices are slim for an "MPV" which seats 7. Most Malaysians will go for a Toyota than a Perdua, or Proton for the same price.
I thought the new Naza Citra was quite a good buy at 70+K tho. Much better equipped with a bigger engine as well. My sis ended up booking a Chevy Nabira sport (taking delivery after CNY), after her month long test drives and researches. Nice sporty looking MPV imho.

The capacity is 1.3 liter, right?
1.3 liter can pull five people....?
1.3 or 1.5 is not important its how much power you can squeeze out from it
A 1.3 with the latest tech now is comparable to a 1.6 a few years back.
I mean seriously how fast do you want to go when youre bringing your family of five. Mine is coming after CNY once I get hold of it then I will give report now still no comments but from the papers and magazines it has been getting fairly good reviews.

Got it.
It's 65 KW, or 87 bhp.
and torque is
120 Nm, or 88.5 lbs-ft...
You must have a very light family.... ;-)
it's not the speed I meant, but the ability to pull the weight-la, especially uphill....
Ive seen Perodua Rusa's going up Genting with full load not a problem
so I dont see why the Avanza should have any problem.
Ive also a Kembara (A) which I have driven up Genting with 5 on board (5 adults and a kid) also not a problem, its just a matter of I reach maybe five minutes later compared to a Waja. Kembara is also a 1.3 but the Avanza uses a newer spec engine of the Kembara.
One thing you are right though, I do have a very 'light' family.
Im light in the pocket, my wife is light in the chest and my son likes to light peoples car on fire.
