I think this vehicle is a totally new design, and part of the IMV program by Toyota...supposed to be affordable. In Thailand, the model equipped with 2.7 litre petrol engine retails for around RM 100k. Here its rumoured to be about 160k...go figure! KNNCCB! :aggressive:

I think the Fortuner's is sharing the same platform as the Innova. One's RM 100k,the other's RM 190k. Fuh! What a big premium! :beaten:

Fortuner. Gas 2.7 litre V6 VVTi, 3 litre 4-4D turbo diesel.
Gas here is P 1.3M (RM 88K), Diesel is P1.6M ( RM108K).
Launched almost 2 months ago. Real long queue up to 9 months wait!. Toyota did a boo-boo in the advertising campaign and had too few units for sale.
Same problem Mazda did with Mazda 3 launch. Marketing people are hopeless here!.
The Ford Focus is another one that has "soft launched", I figured this one is going to flop, due to high pricing. Its a Focus 1.8 litre Ghia with auto and leather. But priced in the region competing with Civic 2.0 and Mazda 3 2.0 litre. Ford has no idea who they are competing with in that segment. Its not as if they had any reputation here. They had real bad reputation in the past and now they are competiting with the sexy "half-sister" the MZ3 2.0.
Most people say no match!.

I thought the Fortuner comes with a 4 pot 2.7 VVTi liter engine? Nevertheless, if its selling for less than RM90k in the Philippines, and gonna sell for RM160k or RM190k, its akin to daylight robbery!! KNNCCB! :aggressive:

Even at these prices, there will be takers.
One of my contractors wants to replace his 1997 Manual Prado 2.7 diesel (nonturbo).
He bought it new & has covered >600 thou KM.
What else can he replace that with?
He thought a Land Rover but the new Disco3 diesel is over RM 300K & We know it will cost a fortune to maintain...
Others like Ssangyong Rexton TD, or the Kia Sorento TD are new players. So the track record is a bit uncertain.
He has decided to stick with Toyota, & a manual box.
I wouldn't be surprise if there's a 9 month waiting list now....

Al,
You were right, the 2.7L gas is a BIG FOUR not the V6, my mistake. That block is the Camry 4 banger. For the Innova, its the same 2 litre block, Bigger bore for 2.4 4 banger Camry. For Fortuner its "huge" bore to 2.7 litres. Same ECU with different torque settings.
In Philippines. Compare Innova Gas 2.0 VVTi to Fortuner 2.7Gas VVTi. P716K vs P1.3M. Thats 80% more!. Only the "shell" is different between the 2, chassis is same diff same, engine bigger size but almost the same in most respects. Its classified at SUV thats what is commanding the premium. Actually, comapring the prices of similar Jap or Korean SUV, the pricing is about right.
Makes the Innova a real bargain!.
Yeah , Fortuner has incer interior but not really that much nicer to command such a price. People are falling over each other to get the Fortuner here!. Its a crazy stampede. I am dumbfounded.

I really love Toyota cars but lately I can seethe quality of the car drops after it manufacturing plant shifted to Thailand. If I buy a Toyota I would still go for the fully imported from Japan.

Well BOTH!!!
UMW overdeclared the value of the vehicles, government collect more taxes and the buyers of these vehicles will be the suckers. Plain simple! :beaten:

I saw an Isuzu mu-7 (D-Max based full bodied SUV) on the road in KL 2 weeks ago. Its a really nice lifestyle SUV, with the top models in Thailand having leather captain's chairs for the second row. I wonder if it'll make it here? Also, there are tons of Fortuners there.
Fortuner is just too expensive. If I wanted one, it'll have to be the Everest.

nice.....but how much, if at all? Last I heard, no plans to bring this here.
Hi WK
The Isuzu D-Max is immediately available in 4 x2 Automatic, 4 x 4 Manual, and 4 x 4 Automatic. Prices range from RM87, 395 for the 4 x 2 Auto, to RM89, 011 for the 4 x 4 Manual, and RM96, 443 for the 4 x 4 Automatic. All prices are on-the-road with insurance.
toyota's is a 2.5L Common rail TDI.. Toyota Hilux Double Cab Automatic is RM93,600, manual version priced at RM88,600 and the Single Cab at RM69,200 ..which one would u choose?
I'd stick to the Toyota Hilux la for better resale residuals :D :D

For road tax purposes alone, I'd go for the Toyota. The D-Max is 3.0 right? But I wonder about the Mu-7...
MU-7? no idea..but main concessionaire is DRB-HiCOM ...3.0L is too much road tax..now that the diesel price advantage is being steadily eroded with each price increase of petrol.. :D

Thats a TRUCK in my book.....
IMHO these things are dangerous..... you can never see what is ahead of these monsters when you are behind them, even when u maintain a safe distance away......
If there's a prado/unser/harrier/range rover/something taller than 6+feet - I WILL ENDEAVOUR TO OVERTAKE THEM!

Yup at least u'll hv a clear road ahead once u do..umm btr not do it with a fully laden Myvi though..kekkekkek :D
