Just wondering if any one out there has placed their order for this car? Thinking about getting the 1.3 Auto with ABS and Dual Air bags, heard that the price is around RM52k..

Lovely! The Picanto better worry, big time. Any pics, or is it just the new Move?

From what i've heard it's similar to the Daihatsu Sirion or Toyota Passo... Pics can be found on this month's Autocar...

Cheers..

I bumped into one salesman at the post office and got a price list from him... highest spec is RM52k 1.3 DVVT auto...

lowest spec is 1.0 manual... RM42k i think... can't recall now.. got 1.3 DVVT manual as well at RM48k... that shud be fun.. was told that it had about the same dimension as the Honda Jazz...

OK. The Sirion looks pretty European. Its going to do well. TRM launching soon....lets see which one wins!

I'm guessing the Perodua would beat it hands down. There was a recent article which mentioned that Perodua is in a better position to cope with AFTA, which explains why Toyota is building the Avanza there.. Wouldn't touch a Proton with a ten foot pole, too problematic and always been a stressful experience...

my wife's Kelisa & previously Kancil is very reliable ....only trips required to service centers are for regular 5k mileage service. Each service is cheap also ... at the most RM200. Only complain i have is the rattling noises in the car ....else, reliable unlike my other cars.

She is waiting to see the MYvi before upgrading.

hey Stephen..

Was driving the 850cc kancil for a month sometime back. Being my first experience with a Kancil, it had ok power only thing is that NVH issues could be better suppressed.

haha... was at the launch last night.. car is really good and test drove.. doors close with a 'thunk' audi sound, interior decent, dash is the none common 'plasticy' look.. dash speakers, toyota meters clusters..best part, rear doors open 80 deg. wide !!

price RM51k on the road for the full option is a steal..

Wife placed a booking for a 1.3 with ABS and airbag. Initially manual (ngam!) but could end up being auto (no interest, then!). Delivery is slated for late-July early August. Those who place their orders after today can expect it in September-October. So they say lah.....

See below for review and lots of pics of the UK-spec Daihatsu Sirion. Its a pity that the myvi will not be getting the MINI-wannabe instrument pod.

Actually, the modded one in skycon's pic doesn't look difficult to achieve. There are no changes to the wheel arches. Given the expanse of the front bumper, changing it brings about a considerably different look. Dai Ichi, et al - are you prepared for the demand?

Check out the Swift GTI undergoing "secret" testing. No 4-door version available. Who needs an MCS now :D:D

wkwoo69
05-26-2005, 03:51 PM
Yep. If it fits the myvi with little or no mods, I'm sure they'll be able to shift a few. Problem is, the ori kit will surely cost more than 10% of the purchase price. Still, better than paying over the odds for the potong kereta ones.

Going this weekend to test. 85hp, 950kg, manual, should be fun!

stephen
05-26-2005, 05:11 PM
eh pussy, sure or not ... "doors close with a 'thunk' audi sound" ... for me more like 'thunk & plank' at the same time. Didnt like the sound, maybe the glass window needs to be held more firmly by the door frame. Anyone second my opinion?

Exterior wise I give a complete thumbs up! Engine is from Toyota's Avanza and so should be reliable.

but interior is not to my liking. In line with a worldwide aging population, cars like Honda Accord now have speedo readings' numbers so large that you can read from far away. Same here with the MYvi, the words on the center console is so large! Check out the pictures.

Overall my wife & I like MYvi and plan to book soon if the color olive green looks nice in metal. Will have to test drive too. At RM51k for the Premium Auto Version with dual airbags/ABS/rear spoiler, it is value for money & competitors better be worried. Looks like my wife will buy a Perodua for the 3rd consecutive time.

i went to see the car live earlier. Yes, the car looks nice. The paintjob is good (some commented it's better than jazz), the interior is better build quality and the seats are comfy (unlike the kelisa or kenari which is like a board only).

willie,

the 1.3 premium comes with 2 airbag, abs, chrome side steering wheel, some trimmings and rear spoiler. and the display lights are white.

Btw, i notice something too. the fuel indicator is the same as vios, by digital. The gear shift also the same as newers cars, it's in the digital odometer. Pretty impressive.

The key is the eletronic immobiliser.

I tested the lights, with the fog lamp, the throw is wide and far. :) good stuff. Good for HID upgrades man.

Didn't have the time to do a test drive, so I didn't bother to ask. Changed to a dark silver, and confirmed that it is an auto (sniff!). There was 1 auto and 1 manual on display at the USJ showroom, so I had an OK poke around both standard (non ABS/airbag) cars.

I'm deeply impressed by the build quality, materials and fit and finish. The movement of the exterior door handles, though not substantial, is smoother and more well made than even an E46's. The Gen2's handles are rubbish next to these. The steering wheel is well sized and has a pleasant enough feel. The dashboard texture felt expensive, but the auto gearstick could be more definite in its movement. The doors close convincingly but not at all with an Euro-thunk that some local reviewers would like you to believe.

The boot carpet is of the nicer type and the only 2 exposed screws in there are obscured when the hatch (speaker board) is down. There's no hard brittle plastic anywhere. The hatch is smooth and there's hardly any gap between the bumpers and the body.

At the price, a stupendous bargain. TRM, over to you.....

I think both are the standard versions.

just to share some experience i've heard: the owner of a national car found an extra car key behind the bumper, this is a tactic for bad guy to steal car.... just get the key from the bumper and there goes your car....
so, the next time u want to buy a new car, make sure u check the bumper whether there's any extra key hidding or not.

6 months' wait for an auto...dang, the dealer was right - there's going to be a massive diff in waiting time if you didn't book before the launch date.

I hope the first batch won't end up being guinea pigs, but I have complete faith in Perodua.

The car was delivered to the house last night. The P2 dealer staff were helpful. This car rides well. The damping is well controlled and there is no see-sawing. A little dive under braking, but not disconcerting. Acceleration is strong, mainly from 2,800 rpm onwards (DVVT kah?) but its only gone 4,500 rpm so far. Lots of potential lurking here! The door handles are as good as ever, but there's the usual P2 fan and rattling parcel shelf noises. Also, the crappy painted (and chipped) studded pedals! The seat material looks so low-rent, but the rear seat room is enormous. This car is going to sell on looks alone (though the JDM one looks so much better IMHO). Jazz-driving brother in law was clearly impressed.

Lots of people (birds) in the local cars do a double take every time we go out.
Its actually the second registered one I've seen. The first was in KK over the weekend!

Reported 21,000 bookings so far.

Sure thing E28 Driver. The "Ozzy Orange" is probably the nicest shade IMHO. But wife needed it ASAP and this colour, surprise, surprise, was the quickest.

You're going to see this all over the place in the coming weeks. Most people do a double take and we got the best parking spot during a wedding over the weekend at a PJ hotel. I quite enjoy the questions at petrol stations and hotels. Lots of men and women on the street are interested not only because its new, but principally because its accessible. The nearby second hand car dealer has one on his lot (lower spec model with steel rims), right next to the Avanza.

But, as it is, I think the manual would be fun enough. The car pulls so strongly from 2.8k up to 4k. Sad to say, this one (sorry didn't post the pic earlier) is an Ezi

This is going to seal the deal over any competitor. Most people cannot believe the amount of rear leg room. This easily exceeds an E36's.

Just came back from seeing both.

I think the Savvy and MYvi are in a different classes.

The Savvy would be in the same size class as the Kanchil or more appropriately the Kelisa (comparing performance).

The MYvi would be in the same size class as the Athos or maybe the Aveo.

My assessment of the MYvi:

The external design looks initially attractive, but upon closer inspection it somehow looks disproportionate. Nice touches e.g. LED rear lights

The interior is spacious and the design is quite pleasant and very modern. Also has nice touches - I like the folding of the rear seats. I dont like the seat fabric.

I didnt test drive it yet.

IMHO opinion, I think MyVi is a great car in it class and a value for money.
The powertrain unit had been tested under a very severe condition to ensure its relaiblity. The endurance on dyno had been push up to redline for hundred continous hours. It's not an ordinary dyno, it's the AVL dyno.

Do you know that for 1.0 engine even your timing belt broken, the piston and valve still safe. You don't have to do the over-haul for replacement. Just ask the mechanic to adjust the timing angle and install the new belt.

willie
06-23-2005, 09:20 PM
1.3 is using timing chain right??? actually what's the different when one engine uses timing belt, one uses timing chain...

d_dragosani
06-24-2005, 08:48 AM
Yep, MyVi 1.3 is using timing chain. It's the Kembara K3 DOHC engine with different drivetrain unit and ECU as well. While the 1.0 is using Kenari & Kelisa export version engine, the EJ-VE. It comes with DOHC and DVVT system.Better power with twin cam and save petrol with the DVVT system. DVVT is for petrol saving and engine efficiency, not for the power as VTEC system.

During my last ride in Kembara, the auto had performed better than manual. The auto system had manage the power delivery efficiently during over-taking or speeding. Never try MyVi yet.

Same goes for the Kancil, the auto with ED-DE DOHC engine is more powerful than the manual. Once you drive the auto you don't even bother to drive the manual ones. It's the car to teach the un-ethical mat motor in KL... :D, combining the car ability and your driving skills.

Normally timing chain is use for the big CC engine. Of course, timing chain is better....less noise, long lasting, less friction, better power delivery, etc.

isn't timing chain noisier than belt? and more friction and slight power loss due to the heavier weight of the chain compared to the lighter weight belt...

however, it does last a lot longer...

Yes, you are absolutely right sifu.

However, for MyVi if I'm not mistaken it suppose to come with next-gen timing chain which been develop specifically for it.
I can't confirm abt this since I already resigned from the company quite sometimes before the project completed.

Apologize for the confusing infos.

Aha, got consultant here heh heh...Chop shop selling body parts already. It's going to take off! Lets check out the scene by year end. We'll be able to tell by then whether Savvy or Myvi is the sales champion.

Darn, I'll still love to test the Savvy, what with that rock-solid gearshift (when not moving anyway).

Honda must have done well in their marketing campaign of the Vtec. Truth is not all Vtecs are equal, some are really for all out performance, and others have a high design criteria for lean burn, fuel efficiency + power. Generally, the L Series 1.5 Vtec on the City and Jazz are not all out power designs, but a mix of fuel economy lean burn and power. Hence you wont see a Type R on the L15A Vtec engine series.

MyVi had been develop at the same time with her sister in Japan.
But the launching had been delayed in Malaysia, because the priority to launch it in Japan first to compete with the Jazz.

In term of quality it should be superb. The things which will create the problem are the local contents. However, not all local contents are poor quality.

For the powertrain unit, nothing much to be worried. They had tested the engine in several condition that the normal driver himself won't even dare to try.

eh, i found one problem... how come there is no clock in myvi???

wkwoo69
07-11-2005, 03:42 PM
There should be a clock in the radio display. But its not easy to see, because you have to focus on the narrow slat. Quicker to just look at your wristwatch.

Anyway, we got the first recall letter early last week, dated end-June. Something about the rear brakes. Its supposed to be half an hour job, so the little car's going in this Sat. I'm obviously not happy, but am of course thankful that Perodua has the decency to write. Will post up the letter shortly.

Got it tinted over the weekend as a birthday present for the wife. Resisted the all-poweful temptation to go for JDM-style tint 80% passenger sides and rear. Got silver for the sides but the rear is 80%. As expected, the car would have looked a lot better with the 80% sides, but it may not be practical at night. Will post up some pics shortly too.

After the first 1k service, brought it a couple (OK, a lot more than that!) of times past the self-imposed 4k rpm limit. Its nice to feel that there's urge beyond that, up to the 6.2k gear change point (won't hit the 6.5k redline). Of course, its no big twin cam VTEC-stlye kick, but there's at least there's a real reason to tekan.

A good buddy (BMW owner also, but doesn't come round here at all) who has driven the Savvy a lot, is full of praise for the myvi's far superior build quality, space and value. He's reserved final judgment on handling (test drive yesterday being wet), but of course, its not meant to be a fun drive. Confirmed ABS works though!

when does the DVVT sets in ah??? at 4000rpm???

wkwoo69
07-11-2005, 06:51 PM
I don't 'feel' it kicking in at all, though there is a more pleasant drone from 2.5k onwards (which fades away when you hit 4.3-4.5k). It feels linear, just like in my CVT Sentra. There's no 'mild' kick even like the single cam Kah Motor EK. As E46F said, its more for economy, not performance.

DVVT or DVVTi is design to improve FC, not the power. The DVVT camshaft gear install onto the exhaust camshaft. For performance, the VVT system must be on the intake side not the exhaust.

If you want to feel the rush, try a facelifted kancil 850 auto, you can feel a sudden rush when you pedal to the floor.

Thanks, d dragosani, enlightening as always. For me, a Perodua is not for kicks lah...only to save money and get good value. Enough of being burnt by maintenance, tax and depreciation.

Just called my old buddy in perodua asking about MyVi,...now waiting list is 6 months, orders received 46,000 cars. The production line is running in full capacity. Must be a big year end bonus this year...

..missed my 5 months bonus there... :(

Was considering to get a Myvi for my GF, but after heard the waiting list is up to 6 months or 9 months max and non of any sales man can confirm by getting this car b4 the chinese New year.

Maybe you should try getting it outside KL. Most are shorter waiting period

samhun

It still takes me about that period.
B4 this Myvi launch, my first choice was considered to get a used year 95 E36 325i. But just a bit worry of getting a 10 year old car for my GF, you know la...girls know nothing about cars mah...once any problems out...Ha, my head will blow off by her complaints. And second was the Alfa 156 2.0L, but this car gives even more problems and the often gearbox failure. A friend of mine had this car b4 and sell off after a year later. By end, I personally love very much the E36, it still looks very cool and love the door design and the interior dash layout. Unlike the Merc C-class looks like old man shit and feel very bored and dated.

I love the E36 too, but I love the fact of not having to shell out loads to maintain it even more! By flogging off the 328i (its been sold on, I understand) I think I've dented my mech's income by quite a bit. I've totally had it with second hand cars now. I'm still impressed with the myvi's "new wave" look every time I drive it / see another one. On that point, I saw a silver one the other day with 17s, and boy, did it look so HOT!

I was pretty excited to learn about the Citroen C2's recent launch, but WTF, RM140k for the hot version?! Fingers crossed on the new Swift GTI being around the RM100k mark. Its supposed to be launched at next month's Frankfurt motor show. If so, finally, a true proper manual new hot hatch at an acceptable price (closest thing so far? 147 1.6 manual or Naza's CTR at RM170k opening price!)

Here's hoping that Suzuki will focus more on performance-related bits (LSD please!!!) rather than loading it up with nice-to-have but ultimately unecessary stuff like xenon, wing mirror signals, carbon trims, etc. BTW, the Premier version of the 5 door looks really good, but really, ditch the Avanti wheel caps lar..........

guys, my gf just got the car, her car usually will park outside of the hostel, so a bit concern about the alarm; do u think it's alarm is sufficient since it got immoilizer???? or should i change to something else????

wkwoo69

Immobiliser? I thought all it had is the remote opening. Would advise that you install a proper motion sensing alarm with immobiliser and use a good (Yale) pedal lock.

My girlfriend finally got her car 2 weeks ago after an 8 month wait.. First impressions - Noise levels into the cabin rather high and gearbox is jerky. *Sigh* Looking to get a Swift now..

ps. No sign of any immobilizer chip on the key, looks like an ordinary key to me...
